In 1997 at 21 the youngest player to wear the Green Jacket he had a remarkable and breathtaking first victory in the US Masters; setting the tournament scoring record with a 270, 18-under par and also the largest winning margin, 12 strokes. He is one of the three players to have won at least four Masters, the latest when he birdied the first hole to beat Chris DiMarco in a sudden death play-off three years ago. That year he equalled the Masters record with seven consecutive birdies in the third round. Looked earmarked for greatness when as an 18-year-old he became the youngest holder of the US Amateur title, which he won at the notoriously difficult Sawgrass course. When he picked up the Masters title in 2002 by three shots he became only the third player (alongside Jack Nicklaus and Nick Faldo) to successfully defend his title. 2009 will be his 15th Masters. He has posted seven top-10s during his career at Augusta. As low as 11-8 in some books and bounced back to top form when landing the WGC-CA Championship in Florida recently having already collected the Buick Invitational on his first appearance of the year.
